Book This ServiceA soft tissue (gum) graft is a procedure that restores gum tissue lost to gum recession. A small piece of healthy tissue, usually taken from the roof of the mouth or from nearby gum, is placed over the exposed root and stitched in place.
It protects exposed roots from decay and sensitivity, helps prevent further recession and can improve the look of a smile where the teeth appear long.
Common causes include gum disease, brushing too hard, crooked or misaligned teeth and naturally thin gum tissue. Treating the cause helps protect the graft.
The area is numbed for the procedure. Afterwards you may have some tenderness, particularly where the tissue was taken, for several days, and your dentist will help you manage it.
